A Happy 4th of July

My fourth of July this year consisted of a block party and about 60 people. A third of them in bands which performed that afternoon. So I got to work making over 5 dozen cupcakes and mini cupcakes to bring along. I stuck to a simple vanilla with a little blueberry flair. My mom had sent me star-themed cupcake liners and little pin wheels. All of the little kids really loved them.  (So did my roommate Steph and I once my ceiling fan got them going...)

My commitment to baking began in 2009 as a New Years resolution to bake at least once a week. The initial goal was to take a break from my graphic design work, and to create something with my hands. I baked a total of 49 out of 52 weeks in 2009! Now, this hobby has inspired my senior degree project, the branding of a fictitious bakery, and my decision to continue my education at the Institute of Culinary Education this summer.
